about

The final in a trilogy of 3 releases starting with Context in 2002. Third Voyage was due to be released in 2006 however the release never saw the light of day until 2012. The cd's were a limited edition of 50 hand numbered discs packaged into a retro 5-1/4 floppy disc. The music here is dedicated to the memory of Christopher Cameron one half of the duo who brought his love and admiration of analog synthesizer instrumentation into the heart of the Thought Guild's music.

ATTN:

2015 Jewel case re-release in a limited run CDR.

Contains a bonus archival track KI which was as most of Thought Guild's music recorded direct to cd-r or an early Pro-Tools rig. No post rehearsals just a few sequences and us playing like atypical synth geeks!

REVIEWS:

Third Voyage is the final chapter in a trilogy of albums originally intended for release in 2006 but not unleashed until 2012, and then only in a limited edition of 50 CDs. Kyryluk has finally made the album more widely available in both CD and download formats.

The Ebbing Universe opens the set with floating space electronica that melds Berlin school and New Age with a symphonic Progressive Rock sensibility and a spellbinding song-like quality. I love the tinkling sequenced and cosmic whale song melodies on Iridescent Resonance that contrast with one another but glide along in tandem, soon joined by a classic Prog keyboard melody, and all surrounded by a heavenly orchestral atmospheric aura. Last Train To Lyon is a seamless synthesis of multiple elements, sounding in part like a deep space take on 80s synth-pop, but also having an accessible Prog-light feel and cosmic noir quality, plus lots of fun freaky alien effects. The full blown Space-Prog rocking Retropolis has a cinematic edge that could have put these guys in the sci-fi soundtrack business. And speaking of soundtracks, Moon Blossom Meditation has a Goblin/Suspiria character, but is angelic and mystical rather than horror driven. VCO vs. DCO is another slab of deep space Prog with a classic sequenced Tangerine Dream drive. Titanium Ashram is a soundscapes, ambience and effects mash with a playful rhythmic patter that’s like a light skip through the outer edges of the atmosphere. Celestial Glossolalia is pure heart wrenching space symphony. And Ki is a “Bonus Live Improv” from 2004 that was added for this reissue and sounds in part like something from a live Klaus Schulze performance. Overall a very enjoyable set of Space-Prog and floating electronic driven space excursions.

"Third Voyage", released in February 2012 on Harmonic Resonance Recordings, marks the third and unfortunately the last chapter of collaboration between Alpha Wave Movement's Gregory Kyryluk and his country mate, synthesist Christopher Cameron, who passed away on August 22, 2011. Before exploring the vintage synth sound of this final voyage, we are confronted with nicely looking retro packaging with 5.25 floppy disc, released in a limited edition of 50 copies and hand numbered. Definitely a true collector's item!!! "Third Voyage" unfolds with celestially elated and tranquilly sweeping texture, "The Ebbing Universe". Its warmly inviting and graceful atmosphere is nicely emphasized by angelic choir-like sounds and tenderly tinkling effects. Excellent opener!!! "Iridescent Universe" is slightly more eclectic and expressive in its first half with stronger nostalgic feel, towards the end it becomes more serene and aerial. Charming ethereal mid-tempo melodies invade the next piece, "Last Train To Lyon", and attractively interplay with occasional, evocative and catchy electric guitar riffs. Emotionally strong and exciting composition!!! Darker and deeper intro of "Retropolis" soon slips into actively rhythmed and ever-changing tune. Hauntingly rich, colorful and uplifting blend of melodies and atmospheres. "Moon Blossom Meditation" is dominated by evocative and immersing sorrow soundscapes enriched by crispy bells. The next piece, "VCO Vs. DCO", keeps at the beginning its sad, more orchestral-like feel, but later it quickly cascades into rapidly and dynamically vibrant and refreshing sequence patterns. "Titanium Ashram" attracts with its sky high ride spiced with crystalline gurgles shimmeringly swirling around listener's ears. Peaceful and graceful washes enter "Celestial Glossolalia" and carry it with fragilely pulsing effects into vast open realms with all its sublimity and magnificence, pure aural beauty and majestic way to finish off this highly treasured voyage!!! Gregory Kyryluk definitely succeeded in his mission to reflect the vintage atmosphere/vibe of the Thought Guild history and paid tribute to the memory of Christopher Cameron. Thank you so much, Greg, for sharing these memorable moments and recordings with us, Chris will always be remembered through his music, creativity and passion!!!

German Review:

Space in Vollendung. Ob nun rhythmisch und melodiös oder die traumhaften, ruhigen Stücke .... da passt alles. Einfach tolle Musik !!
