about

Berlin school meets space music. Ambient pings, electro drum machines and the strange dissonance of galactic static murmurs.

The opener 'Monolith' takes us on a resonating journey through silky smooth harmonic timbres. It's as if the mood of 'Transcendence' has spilled straight into this album. 'The Edge of Infinity' again plots a course through spatial sound phasing, accompanied by background sequences which mutate into an ambient beat with the utmost ease. It's deceptively simple and totally captivating, bringing to mind a blissed out Asana - such is the ear for infectious yet understated rhythm and melody. 'Travel Into the Nexus' charts lengthy sound collages guided by a punctuated sequence which slowly builds in complexity and subliminal detail. The opening of 'Binary Code 51' has a air of 2010 about it before getting into its sequenced stride. Again the beat is totally infectious, drawing you in then creating a hypnotic bow wave on which to ride. 'Reflective Synapse' creates the impression of a gentle breeze brushing against wind chimes. It's 6½ minutes of mind soothing brain cradling relaxation which is hard to fault. 'Vistas of Magnificence' features laid back sequence lines and a dispersion pattern of sonic waves. 'Dusk Descending' opens with deep rasping synth lines upon which a silken trail is laid of pure beauty. Rhythmic flotsam and gently plucked guitar form a gossamer structure for the mesmeric synth lines to rest against, and such is their delicacy that they don't even leave a trace. 'Distant Visitation' features a heavy beat around which complementary sequences play, leaving 'Purge' to close proceedings with effects straight from the realms of Alien. One slight gripe is that the track fading is occasionally intrusive and premature. The longest track is under 7 minutes though it sounds as if many may have been significantly longer, and with more than 16 minutes to spare on the CD they deserved more room to blossom. This is a minor irritation though when compared to the wealth of treasures on offer. Alpha Wave Movement are a class act with that rare ability for producing Electronic Music of undefinable quality. You can't put your finger on it, you just know it's right - very right.
